Buddy Holly Center kicks off Summer 2022 Showcase Series
The Buddy Holly Center recently announced its Summer Showcase 2022 Concert Series lineup, which promises entertainment for all types of music lovers.
Summer Showcase is scheduled for 5:30-7:30 p.m. every Thursday from May 19 through Aug. 18 in the Meadows Courtyard.
In addition to live music, there are children’s activities, food trucks and a cash bar. The museum is also open to the public for free during the showcase.
This summer's series kicks off on May 19 with Lubbock's own hometown funk band Element.
The group has opened for TK Soul, Betty Wright, Mel Waiters, Bobby Bluebland, Sir Charles, Kenny Wayne, Jackie Neal, Donnie Ray and more.
Next up is Lubbock singer/songwriter Jeremy Couture on May 26.
Couture started playing cello at a young age, which prompted him to study cello performance at Texas Tech. He taught himself to play the guitar, which led into songwriting. He has released an EP titled "The Mess We Made" which features a selection of seven songs described as Americana in style.
The series heads into June with Lubbock musician Joy Harris set to perform on June 2.
Harris plays locally as well as touring the U.S. with her varied and eclectic style singing and playing bass. She performs solo as well as with other musicians and plays styles ranging from jazz to country.
June 6 will feature Lubbock soul artist Chris Hudgins with his self-proclaimed smooth "delivery and spontaneous, loop-based musicianship".

Mariachi Mexico Lindo will take the showcase stage on June 16. You can catch the group every Friday at Albarran's Mexican Bar and Grill at 7722 Milwaukee Ave.
Patricia Vonne, musician, actress, award-winning filmmaker and two-time SXSW best female vocalist winner, will be featured at the showcase on June 23.
The San Antonio native celebrates her Hispanic heritage by incorporating bilingual vocals and musical flavor.
Colt Compton and the Comptones will wrap up the month of June with their June 30 performance.
Following a break for the Fourth of July holiday, Lubbock fan favorite Jenni Dale Lord will take the stage at BHC on July 7.
An album release party for Lord and her band's newest album is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. June 11 at the Prima Vista Event Center. For tickets and more information, visit jennidalelord.com
Summer heats up on July 14 with Anthony Garcia, a songwriter, guitarist, and classically trained pianist based in Austin. His musical style has been described as “cinematic Americana.” The style is "a genre that interweaves songwriting with expanding, quasi orchestral sections," according to his website www.anthonygarciamusic.com
Another familiar name to Lubbockites, Mark Wallney is scheduled to perform on July 21. In addition playing acoustic solo shows around Lubbock, Wallney plays lead guitar with several different bands including The Hat Trick.
The month wraps up with the July 28 show by The Eddie Beethoven Band, which plays "a derivative form of Texas Americana having its roots deep in rhythm and blues, boogie woogie, cow jazz, country jump blues, and folk," according to the group's website theeddiebeethovenband.com
The first show of August features Wendy Colonna on Aug. 4. The singer/songwriter has spent the last 20-plus years touring and sharing her music.
"I’ve had the privilege of traveling far and wide, sharing stories and songs, weaving cultural ties across the world," she states on her website, wendycolonna.com.
The series continues with Lubbock's own Gypsy Jayne on Aug. 11. Gypsy Jayne is a shot of pure passion with their music described as earthy eclecticism (think old-school country, jazz, gospel, and rock, and you’re just beginning to scratch the surface), according to its website www.gypsyjayne.com/
The band is made up of Gypsy Jane on vocals and rhythm guitar; Joel Smith on bass; Shad Daugherty on electric/lead guitar; and Jayce Logan on drums.
Wrapping up the summer series on Aug. 18 will be The Selfless Lovers.
The Selfless Lovers are a piano-driven rock n' roll band from Austin. The group's original music draws on classic rock, soul, blues and southern rock influences, according to their website http://theselflesslovers.com/
