Buffalo Bills' player makes special appearance at Bar-Bill Tavern in Penfield

The Bar-Bill Tavern in Penfield got a dose of NFL celebrity this week.

The team's offensive lineman Dion Dawkins made an appearance at the bar Thursday afternoon, casually serving food, helping behind the bar and greeting fans.

The event was not an official meet and greet but an opportunity for some patrons to interact with the 29-year-old New Jersey native, who has played for the Buffalo-based NFL team since 2017. Dawkins stopped by after the final day of training camp, held at St. John Fisher University in Pittsford.

Since the tavern, dubbed "Bar-Bill East," opened for business at 1129 Empire Blvd. last month, it has been crowded, often with patrons lining up daily for a chance to try the restaurant's famous chicken wings and popular beef on weck sandwiches.

Bar-Bill has been a fixture in East Aurora since 1977. The Penfield spot is the tavern's third Bar-Bill bar, and its first outside of Erie County.

The Bar-Bill Tavern is renowned for its chicken wings and beef on weck sandwiches, attracting patrons from all walks of life, including celebrities like Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen - and now linebacker Dion Dawkins.

In addition to their signature dishes, the tavern offers a range of appetizers, personal pizzas, chicken fingers, and various beverage options such as beer, wine, hard cider and seltzer.

Last week, sportswriter Ian Rapoport visited the tavern with his wife and helped serve patrons and chatted with fans, said Bar Bill spokeswoman Kaileigh Falkner.
