Buffalo Bills training camp schedule for St. John Fisher released

The Buffalo Bills will make their long-awaited return to St. John Fisher College for training camp on Sunday morning, July 24, with a practice that is scheduled to start at 9:45.

Not since 2019, Josh Allen’s second season, have the Bills been at their training camp home due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The last two summers, they conducted all of their preseason training at their facility at One Bills Drive in Orchard Park, and only a select few practices conducted inside Highmark Stadium were open to the public.

In their return to Pittsford, the Bills will conduct 11 practices (there will be one at Highmark Stadium on Aug. 5), breaking camp after the Thursday, Aug. 11 session which is two days prior to their preseason opener at home against the Indianapolis Colts.

Tickets will be made available first to users of the Bills mobile app starting at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 14. A link and promo code to access the tickets will be sent to you via email. No in-person or phone orders will be taken. All tickets must be secured online, and there will be a limit of four per account.

Coach Sean McDermott said Tuesday that he is excited about getting back to Rochester because he has long believed that having the players together away from the home facility is great for camaraderie and team building.

“I’m looking forward to going to training camp,” McDermott said. “I love going to St. John Fisher, I love going to Rochester and that area around Rochester. I really think it’s a cool place to be. I think it’s a great place to be that time of year in particular. You have those warmer, hotter days at times which we need to get us in shape and then the cooler nights and I think it’s a great place for our team to come together, I really do.”

The Bills first began training at St. John Fisher in 2000 and did so for 20 consecutive summers before the pandemic. It is believed that the contract between the Bills and Fisher has expired, but Brandon Beane said a couple months ago that he can envision a scenario where the team will continue to work out agreements to train on the campus.

He hinted that one year the team could be in Fisher, maybe the next year they would stay home in Orchard Park, and rotate in years to come. Or, perhaps they will just hammer out a new contract with Fisher beyond a year-to-year scenario.

“We enjoyed our time there, for sure,” Beane said at the time. “COVID kind of took the decision away from us, so that contract expired.”

On the possibility of returning before the details were later finalized, Beane said of the possible rotation of camps from year to year, “That’s an easy one in the sense that we kind of know that set up. It’s not home, but it’ll feel like home, you know, ‘Hey, we just haven’t been here in a couple years.’ If we were going somewhere totally new, I would want to say, ‘Let’s don’t just do this for one year and then leave.’

“But at this point, let’s say we went this year, we could go up this year and then say, ‘You know what, let’s try it back here next year.’ We know that we can be successful doing it at Fisher. We also know we can be successful staying home in Orchard Park.”
