Buffalo Gap man sentenced to federal prison for possessing 700-plus child porn videos

A Buffalo Gap man was sentenced to 210 months − 17.5 years − in federal prison for possession of more than 700 videos of child pornography, plus additional images of child sexual activity and bestiality videos, according to a court document.

Alden Brent Cooper was sentenced July 8 by U.S. District Judge Mark Pittman in the Northern District of Texas, Abilene Division, after being found guilty Feb. 22 of one federal count of distribution and receipt of child pornography.

The investigation began after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children was notified March 25, 2021, by an internet digital storage company that two pornographic videos had been uploaded from an email account. NCMEC notified the Abilene Police Department, which tracked the email account to Cooper, the document stated.

Cooper was taken into custody by officers with APD and the Texas Department of Public Safety at his residence April 20, 2021, after investigators obtained a search and arrest warrant.

During an interview with officers, Cooper stated he had been viewing child pornography for about 10 months and was interested in it because it was taboo, the document stated.

An APD investigator conducting a forensic exam of Cooper's electronic devices reported finding 244 videos and 24 images of child pornography on a USB drive and another 482 videos and 342 images of child pornography on a laptop. In addition, there were 279 images/videos of child exploitation and bestiality and 27 videos "created by Cooper with the family dog," the document stated.

According to an APD news release, Cooper has other pending charges stemming from the investigation and submitted to the Taylor County District Attorney's Office.
