Here's a look at community events this week around the Seacoast:

Portsmouth Halloween Parade

PORTSMOUTH — The annual Portsmouth Halloween Parade will step off at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 31. Those planning to march in the parade are asked to gather at Peirce Island beforehand. If you want to get a good spot on the curb, the parade will process up Mechanic Street, take a right on Marcy Street, wind around to go up Daniel Street toward Market Square, continue on Congress Street, take a left on Fleet Street and then another left onto State Street, which will take it back to Prescott Park where it ends. Parade takes place rain or shine.

Game Night with Diversions at library

SOMERSWORTH — On Tuesday, Nov. 1, from 6 to 6:55 p.m. at the Somersworth Public Library, Diversions Puzzles & Games is hosting a game night for kids ages 6 to 12. Buildzi, Space Escape, Dragonwood and more will be available. Come and play.

10 To Watch winners to be announced

PORTSMOUTH — Judges have narrowed the field of the 2022 10 To Watch Seacoast young professionals contest nominees to 20 finalists. The 10 winners will be announced at an awards ceremony and reception presented by Catapult Seacoast and Seacoast Media Group on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 3S Artspace in Portsmouth. The contest recognizes young professionals (40 and under) who live and/or work in the Seacoast and contribute to the community in addition to their career accomplishments.

This year's contest is sponsored by Bank of America, Heritage Home Service and Eversource. Keynote speaker for the awards ceremony will be entrepreneur Al Fleury, a past 10 To Watch winner.

The awards ceremony will run from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. There'll be a taco buffet by Barrio and a cash bar for attendees to enjoy before the ceremony begins. The public is invited to attend.

Learn about Girls Scouting in Rochester and Dover

ROCHESTER — Girl Scouts follow their own convictions, take the lead in their own stories, and explore all the extraordinary things they’re capable of. Girls in grades K-3 and a caregiver are invited to learn about opportunities to get involved in your community. Try out sample activities and see the many ways to get involved. Come explore Girl Scouts on Tuesday, Nov. 1, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Rochester Public Library, 65 S. Pulitzer Prize-winning author Stacy Schiff to speak at Music Hall Lounge

PORTSMOUTH — Pulitzer Prize-winning author Stacy Schiff will talk about her new book, The Revolutionary: Samuel Adams on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. at The Music Hall Lounge in Portsmouth.

There'll be an author discussion moderated by Ian Aldrich, senior features editor of Yankee Magazine, followed by an audience Q&A. Tickets are $52 and include a signed book, reserved seat, beverage, and book signing meet-and-greet. KITTERY — The Gundalow Company is hosting its Party for Piscataqua on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at The View at Pepperell Cover in Kittery. Meet and greet starts at 5:30. There'll be a fundraising auction, and food and beverages and a raw bar. Tickets range from $46 to $125, and are available at fareharbor.com

Lecture on Civil War soldiers' quilts

RYE — Pam Weeks will be speaking on Civil War Soldiers' Quilts at the Rye Historical Society meeting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 3, at the Rye Congregational Church, 580 Washington Road, Rye. This meeting is open to the public and the venue is handicapped accessible.  Parking is in the lot to the left of the church, and use the entrance on the left side of the building.

Bugs and Suds Beer Dinner

On Thursday, Nov. 3 at 6 p.m., the Portsmouth Brewery is going to host “Bugs & Suds,” a special beer dinner with a most unusual theme: insect-based cuisine. Insects have been an important source of human nutrition across the globe for millennia, and they are starting to appear on dinner tables here in our country.  Bugs may turn out to be one of the keys to sustainable food production in a climate-changed world as well.

Forty of our most adventurous guests will sit down to a delicious, multi-course meal featuring dishes created by Chef Desmond Smith and Sous Chef Jorge Lopez, paired with beers selected for the occasion by head brewer John Bergeron. Game Night at The Living Room at Stages

DOVER — There'll be a Game Night featuring a cribbage tournament in The Living Room at Stages at One Washington in Dover on Thursday, Nov. 3 at 6 p.m. Players will play for a chance to win dinner for one in the kitchen at Stages. Rye Place to host art exhibit

RYE — Rye Place is holding a community art show featuring the paintings of local artist Susan Hennigan. The art show opening will be held on Thursday, Nov. 3 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the Rye Place Shopping Center, 150 Layfette Road, Rye. Members of the community are invited to attend. There will be light refreshments and plenty of free parking. The art exhibit will be on display through December.

“We are delighted to display amazing oil paintings from the immensely talented local artist, Susan Hennigan. Susan’s pieces feature the beauty of the beach, boats, landscapes, and other scenic treasures. We’re excited to share her gorgeous artwork with our local community,” said Howie Lazerowich, co-owner of the Inn at Rye Place.

Hennigan has lived in Hampton since 1989 and is a self-taught artist who has benefitted from mentoring by several regional oil painters. Susan has shared her art in solo and group exhibitions in the New Hampshire and southern Maine Seacoast. Her work also sits in private collections throughout the United States. In addition, visitors can enjoy beautiful and colorful artwork from students from nearby Rye Elementary School. Their display will include self-portraits, hearts, florals, and collages.

Rye Place is home to 13 small business, 11 of which are women-owned, and range from a hair salon to floral designer. The Inn at Rye Place is attached to the shopping area.

Fall Rummage Sale at Hampton church

HAMPTON — The Hampton United Methodist Church, 525 Lafayette Road (Route 1), Hampton, will hold its Annual Fall Rummage Sale on Saturday, Nov. 5, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Masks optional. BERWICK, Maine — The annual Chili/Chowder Cookoff at the Berwick Public Library will take place on Saturday, Nov. 5, at the library. To enter, sign up at the circulation desk. Tickets to taste and judge are $8 in advance or $10 at the door.

Dawnland StoryFest returns to Strawbery Banke

PORTSMOUTH — For the second year, Strawbery Banke hosts Dawnland StoryFest, New Hampshire’s annual Native American Storytelling Festival, on Saturday, Nov. 5, in connection with the Museum’s Abenaki Heritage Initiative. The festival is free to attend, with a $10 suggested donation. Preregistration is required via StrawberyBanke.org/events/dawnland-storyfest.cfm.

The daylong festival takes place at the Museum in the TYCO Visitors Center, located at 14 Hancock Street, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Attendees listen to storytelling “concerts” or performances by five experienced Indigenous storytellers and a keynote address by Gayle Ross (Cherokee). Benefit concert for Old Berwick Historical Society

ROLLINSFORD — On Saturday, Nov. 5, local rock cover band, Earth 2 Rooney, will present a concert to benefit the Old Berwick Historical Society. The show will take place at American Legion Post No. 47 in Rollinsford, from 7 to 11 p.m. The historical society will mix in games and other fun throughout the show. Admission is a $10 suggested donation at the door. The band asks guests to please bring an unwrapped toy to donate for the upcoming holiday season. For more information, visit www.oldberwick.org.
