Project: A new church building for Northwood Christian Church

Location: 2425 V St., Springfield

A new home for Northwood Christian Church is taking shape near the new Marcola Meadows subdivision on the corner of Marcola Road and V Street in Springfield.

The nearly 50,000 square foot church has been in the planning stages since the church bought the 8-acre lot for $1.2 million in January 2020 with construction now beginning to take shape.

Senior Pastor Barry Lind said the church has been growing in recent years and is looking forward to the additional space to expand children’s and student ministries as well as worship space and services.

“As we continue to grow and welcome new folks in it will only allow us to be able to serve our community in bigger and greater ways,” Lind said.

Northwood Christian was looking at options to expand their current facility at 2425 Harvest Lane when they were approached with an offer to buy the new property.

“It's just a remarkable story that this property became available to us when it did and we were able to secure it,” Lind said. “It's a great reminder of how faithful God is.”

The new facility will be nearly double the size of Northwood Christian’s current church less than a mile away.

Lind said the church has been working on the project in phases to try to manage construction costs. The current phase involves constructing the walls and roof, with work on the interior finishes starting at a later date.

The church is expected to be completed in early 2025.

In April, Northwood Christian sold their current building to The Salvation Army, which will lease the building to the church for the next two years.

Northwood Christian Church was founded in 1962 and held its first worship service at nearby Page Elementary School before starting construction on its current home one year later.

The new building was designed by Eugene-based Arbor South Architecture and is being built by Dorman Construction of Springfield.
