The last Saturday of November will be a Memorial Day to victims of the Great Famine (Holodomor).

The resolution, approved with 134 votes in favor and 26 against, states that any denial, justification and belittling of genocide is a dishonor to the memory of millions of people who died during the Holodomor.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed his gratitude to Bulgarian lawmakers.

"I am thankful to the Bulgarian Parliament for recognizing the 1932-1933 Holodomor as a genocide of the Ukrainian people,” he wrote on Twitter.

“This step commemorates millions of Holodomor victims and restores historical justice. Bulgaria’s gesture of solidarity will always be remembered in Ukraine.”

Dmytro Kuleba, the Foreign Minister of Ukraine also thanked Bulgaria.

"This is a fitting tribute to the memory of the millions of its innocent victims, including members of the Bulgarian community," he tweeted.

On Dec. 15, the European Parliament recognized Soviet starvation of Ukrainians of 1932-1933 as genocide.

2022 marks 90 years since the Soviet authorities imposed an artificial famine in Ukraine via the confiscation of grain and other foods, killing millions of Ukrainian via starvation.
