Bulk trash pick up in Baltimore City set to resume in October

After being suspended during the pandemic, bulk trash pick up and old appliance removal will resume in Baltimore City in about two weeks with a modified schedule, city officials announced Wednesday.

The services will resume Oct. 2. Collections will then be every Saturday from 7 a.m.-3 p.m., with services focused on a different sector of Baltimore City each week, Mayor Brandon M. Scott and Baltimore City Department of Public Works Director Jason W. Mitchell announced.

Each household is allowed up to three items per month, and residents should call 311 to schedule pick up. Individuals can start calling as early as Friday to start scheduling. Once the pick up resumes, residents should schedule their pickup the Thursday before the weekend for their district.

Bulk items eligible for pick up include furniture, appliances like stoves, refrigerators, dryers and air conditioners, and up to four tires with the rims removed. All items must be clearly marked “bulk collection” and placed at the same location as regular trash pickup. Those with a rear pickup should leave items at the end of the yard and leave the gate unlocked, officials said.

The collection schedule will be as follows:

  • First Saturday of the month: Southwest district

  • Second Saturday of the month: Northwest & Central districts

  • Third Saturday of the month: Northeast district

  • Fourth Saturday of the month: Southeast district

Collections will be limited to 200 bulk trash stops and 30 “white goods” — or old appliances — stops per Saturday. After the quota for requests have been met, other stops will be scheduled for the following month. DPW may modify the limits later, depending upon resources.
