Bull riding kids hang on, and more coming soon in Abilene

The 15th annual Youth Bull Riders World Finals will kick at 8 a.m. Wednesday at the Taylor County Expo Center, with rounds continuing at 9 a.m. Thursday and Aug. 5

A final short round will begin at noon Aug. 6, followed by awards presentations.

Cleaning up the streets

Keep Abilene Beautiful will conduct the 2022 Abilene Community Appearance Index from 9-11 a.m. Saturday, starting at Minter Park at the corner of Cypress and North Second streets.

Participants will be assigned to assess roadside litter in a section of Abilene, before returning to the park to turn in data, followed by an ice cream social.

'Rabbit Hole'

A production of "Rabbit Hole" will be presented at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, at Abilene Community Theatre, 809 Barrow St.

'Twister'

Viewers' Choice Week will wind down with a showing of "Twister" at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Paramount Theatre, 352 Cypress St.

Big Country Master Gardeners will present a free seminar, "Growing Your Own Food," from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Taylor County Extension Office, 1982 Lytle Way. Topics include what grows best in the area, garden care and harvesting advice.

Kids in the Kitchen

West Texas Rehabilitation Center will conduct "Kids in the Kitchen" from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at The Grace Museum, 102 Cypress St. The program for ages 4-10 is intended to help get children engaged with mealtime.

'The Sound of Music'

Mrs. Z's Performing Arts Studio will present a production of "The Sound of Music" at 7 p.m. Aug. 6 and 2 p.m. Aug. 7 at Wylie Performing Arts Center, 4502 Antilley Road.

Angels in the Big Country

In advance of an upcoming production of "Angels in America," a drama set during the AIDS crisis, Angels in the Big Country will begin at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 6 at Abilene Community Theatre, 809 Barrow St.

Representatives from the Big Country AIDS Resources Center, Abilene Recovery Council, Abilene Pride Alliance and other organizations will be featured.

Admission is free. Advance tickets for "Angels in America" will be available for $10.
