Bulldogs power their way to victory

Sep. 12—LEBANON — Before the season began, Lyman Memorial girls soccer coach Mark Morello told senior Magda Carpenter that opponents would be keeping an eye on her.

Carpenter was growing frustrated Saturday night with Windham Tech blanketing her with three or four players in the first half.

That changed in the second half.

Carpenter scored two goals and added an assist as Lyman Memorial ( 2- 0) scored all of its goals after halftime in a 4- 0 non- conference victory.

" When she spread things out and found some space, she was able to step into her shot," Morello said. " And that got us on the board."

Avery Volle and Becca Ziegler also had goals for the Bulldogs while Leah Comeroski, Emily McKelvey and Maddie Archer had assists. Phoebe Carpenter made two saves for the shutout.

Delaney Flynn ( 15 saves) made several spectacular saves on free kicks and in the box throughout the match for the Lady Tigers ( 0- 1). Carpenter broke the scoreless tie with 22: 17 remaining and added another six minutes later.

" Delaney is very hard working," Windham Tech coach Brandon Strout said. " She's not afraid to come out of the box and be physical. This was a good test for us, an early measuring stick."

The game was part of a weekend of activities celebrating the 100th anniversary of Lyman Memorial High School. The girls program started in 1974.
