Bulldogs report: Golden Bears rally to sweep UMD in NSIC softball

Apr. 18—Kali Kaestner earned a pair of pitching wins and Concordia-St. Paul used a late rally to down Minnesota Duluth 4-0 and 9-8 in an NSIC softball doubleheader Saturday at Carlander Field in St. Paul.

Kaestner tossed a three-hitter with 10 strikeouts in the opener while Grace Beseman provided all the offense she would need with a three-run home run in the bottom of the first. Kelly Swank had a triple and Jordyn Thomas of Hermantown added a pair of walks to lead UMD.

Concordia was trailing the second game 8-6 going into the bottom of the seventh inning when Amanda Parsons jacked a two-run homer and Meagan Bliese followed with an RBI single to right-center to win it. Bliese finished with three hits and five RBIs and Kaestner got the win with only an inning of relief, giving up two hits but striking out three for the Golden Bears (15-13 overall, 9-5 NSIC).

UMD's Lauren Oberle, who was named NSIC Player of the Week on Monday, had two hits, including a solo home run, while Thomas also had a solo homer. Jessica Bren had three hits and two runs and Emma Frost added two hits, a run and two RBIs for the Bulldogs (20-8, 10-4).
