Bulldogs secure first win of season

Jan. 14—LEBANON — Kevin Botticello and Jordan Chandler each scored nine points and the Lyman Memorial boys basketball team picked up its first win of the season with a 36- 20 Eastern Connecticut Conference Division IV victory over Tourtellotte on Thursday night.

Jaiden Lopez added six points for the Bulldogs (1-6 overall, 1- 1 league).

In other games. ... Vinny LoRicco had 21 points for Coventry, which fell to Ellington, 54- 53, in a North Central Connecticut Conference game at Matthew J. Hurlock Gymnasium.

Wyatt Wendry added 13 points for the Patriots (2-3 overall, 1- 2 league).

Mike Bontempo ( 18 points) and Cody Murphy (17) combined to score 13 fourth-quarter points for the Knights (5-2, 3-2).


Lexi Smardon recorded her first double- double of the season ( 10 points, 12 rebounds) and Parish Hill pulled away in the second half for a 36- 23 Capital Region Athletic League victory over Classical Magnet in Hartford.

Kristie Zator had 13 points and 20 rebounds while Kaelyn Pearl grabbed eight rebounds for the Pirates (5-3 overall, 2- 1 league), who outscored the Lady Gladiators (4-4, 3-1) by a 23-12 margin in the second half.

WEDNESDAY'S RESULTS GIRLS BASKETBALL Julia Phoungiarith scored eight points, Claudia Koiva finished with seven points and seven steals and Grace Smith had six points and 11 rebounds as Windham Tech ( 6- 3) extended its winning streak to five straight games with a 41-25 non-league victory over Tourtellotte ( 1- 8) in Willimantic.

In Uncasville, Windham jumped out to a 20- 5 lead after one quarter in its 55- 30 ECC inter- division victory over St. Bernard.

Sienna Ortiz led the Whips (8-2) with 21 points and six steals, Ady Gonzalez added 13 points, three rebounds and three steals and Aniya Jenkins finished with eight points and four steals.

In Old Lyme, Lyman Memorial fell behind 14- 1 after one quarter in its 43- 28 non-league loss.

Phoebe Carpenter led the Bulldogs ( 3- 5) with 13 points and Kasey Cook added eight.

Alexis Fenton and Kate Walsh each had 14 points for the Wildcats ( 4- 2).


Max Larkin scored the game- winning goal in overtime to give host Woodstock Academy a 6- 5 non- league victory over E. O. Smith-Tolland at the Jahn Ice Rink at the Pomfret School.

Keegan Hodgkinson scored two goals and Braiden George added another as the Bucks ( 5- 2) built a 3- 1 first- period lead.

Szedga, Frommer and Nate Ojala had assists for the Shamrocks (0-7. 0-4 league).


Bryan Alba (145 pounds) and Aaron Palacios-Mendoza ( 160) had first- period pins as Windham defeated East Lyme-St. Bernard, 48- 33, in a ECC inter- division match at East Lyme High School.

E.J. Jenkins (138) and Asael Garcia-Rodriguez (182) also won by pinfall for the Whips (7-1).

In Coventry, Cory Scott (138) won by pin for the host Patriots (0-2, 0-2 league) in a 52-24 NCCC loss to Rockville (2-10, 1-1).
