Bulldogs shade Whips in ECC tourney

May 25—LEBANON — Rayne Bobbi went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI as No. 3 seed Lyman Memorial advanced to the semifinals of the Eastern Connecticut Conference Division II softball tournament on Tuesday with a 4-1 quarterfinal-round win over No. 6 Windham.

Lena Maria-Byers had two hits while Rylee Benway and Kelsey Dunnack each scored runs for the Bulldogs (17-4), who scored twice in the bottom of the sixth inning for the final margin of victory.

Kassidy LaTour threw a 2- hitter with 11 strikeouts and two walks.

Alyssa Lebiszczak had an RBI single in the top of the third frame that scored Soli LeBron to give the Whips (11-10) a 1-0 lead. Analise Escarraman struck out 13 batters and allowed two earned runs.

Lyman Memorial advances to meet No. 2 seed St. Bernard in the semifinals today at 4 p.m. at Griswold High School.

In other games. ... Elizabeth Mitchell threw a complete-game 6-hitter and helped her own cause with three hits and an RBI to lift Coventry past E.O. Smith, 8- 5, in a non- conference game at Eastern Connecticut State University's Clyde Washburne Field.

Caroline Wesoloskie hit a 2- run home run while Sara Miller had two hits and two RBI with Charlotte Wesoloskie contributing a pair of RBI to help lift the Patriots (17-3).

Rachel Morales had three hits and Tegan Mabrysmith cleared the bases with a 3-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning when the Panthers (8-12) scored all of their runs. They also left 10 runners on base over the first six innings.

In Hebron, Enfield scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning with two outs for a 5-4 Central Connecticut Conference tournament quarterfinal- round victory over RHAM.

Olivia Stebbins tied the game at 4-all for the Eagles (17-4) with a 2-run triple and Tiffany Lubanski drove in the go-ahead run on a single.

Hadley Marchand singled and had two RBI, Taylor Fitch had two hits and Alaina Roy added two hits and scored two runs for the Raptors (15-6).

GIRLS TENNIS

Addison Brown and Grace Baran ( 6- 1, 6- 0), Morgan Fazzino and Anna Lavenburg (6-1, 6-1) and Kate Landry and Kiley Stanford (6-3, 6-1) won doubles matches for RHAM (6-9) in a 4-3 CCC North victory over Enfield in Hebron.

In Coventry, Ashlyn White ( 6- 3, 6- 1) won at No .3 singles while Lizzy Moulton and Evie Griswold (6-2, 2-6, 6-2) won at No. 1 doubles as the Patriots (4-7 overall, 4-7 league) dropped a 5-2 North Central Connecticut Conference decision to

MONDAY'S RESULTS BASEBALL

Jack Valliere allowed two hits and struck out 10 batters over 5 M/ ► innings as Windham wrapped up its season on a 2-game winning streak with a 5- 2 ECC inter- division victory over Wheeler in North Stonington.

Valliere ( 2 hits, run) also tripled for the Whips ( 7- 13).

Chase Collins and Emmanuel Beato each singled with a run scored and an RBI.

Tyler Walter picked up the save by recording the final four outs for the Whippets.

TRACK AND FIELD

Resia Baran finished first in the pole vault ( 9- 6) and placed second in the triple jump ( 33- 9) as the Windham girls were fifth overall ( 56 points) at the ECC Division II championship at Plainfield High School.

Kyleigh Miller was second in the 800 (2:30.52) and 1,600 (5:48.51) for the Whips.

SCHOLAR-ATHLETE HONOREES The Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Association held its Scholar-Athlete banquet on Sunday at the Aqua Turf Club in Southington after two years as a virtual event.

The program annually recognizes two high school seniors from each member high school whose academic and athletic careers have been exemplary, whose personal standards and achievements are a model to others and who possess high levels of integrity, self- discipline and courage.

Local recipients from our seven area high schools include: Windham ( Resia Baran and Tyler Walter); Windham Tech ( Lindsey DeMarchi and Jerson Rosario); Lyman Memorial ( Kristen Goodrich and Bennett Murphy); E.
