Archaeology Day

—What: Monocacy National Battlefield will host International Archaeology Day from at the Best Farm, 5106 Urbana Pike, Frederick. Rangers will conduct an archaeological investigation on the battlefield prior to installing new interpretive signage. See if they find interesting artifacts and learn more about the history of the park through a hands-on artifact table. In addition, watch an atlatl demonstration and learn how this early weapon was used thousands of years ago for hunting and how we know it was used here.

Md. International Harvester Collectors Club Harvest Show

—What: The Maryland International Harvester Collectors Club Harvest Show Fall Harvest Show is free and open to the public (donations welcomed for activities). Tractor show open to all tractors and trucks; kids games — pumpkin picking — barrel train rides — wagon rides

shingle branding — corn harvest demonstration. Kids and adult pedal pull. Breakfast and lunch available for purchase both days. Cake and baked goods auction (Benefits local family). Cake/baked goods donations welcomed to support auction.

Walk a Mile in Their Shoes

—What: The mission of Heartly House is to end domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and child abuse, and to provide victims with safety, shelter, and supportive services. Walk a Mile in Their Shoes is an annual walk to raise funds and awareness about Heartly House's work in the Frederick community.

Mt. Pleasant Ruritan Club Quartermania

—What: The Mt. Pleasant Ruritan Club is hosting a Quartermania fundraiser. Tickets are $5 in advance, $8 at the door. Extra paddles available for $3. Food will be sold. Net profits to benefit local good works.

Rabies Vaccination Clinic

—What: The Frederick County Health Department is offering a rabies vaccination clinic. Each vaccination is $10 and payable by cash or check only. All dogs, cats, and ferrets 12 weeks old or older are welcome.

Frederick Maryland FamilySearch Center Lecture

Canines on the Creek

—What: Dog and owner Halloween costume contest and parade. $25 per dog. It is requested that all dogs be well behaved and on leashes with shots up to date. Also prizes, exhibitors and an agility demonstration from Breakaway Action Dogs.

Damascus Lions Club

Pancake Breakfast

—What: The Damascus Lions Club will host pancake, sausage and scrambled egg breakfast. The ticket donation is adults $15, children $7 and under 4-free. A bake/craft table will offer goodies. Tickets may be purchased at the door or from any Damascus Lions. All proceeds from the Lions fundraisers are used for approved community projects.

Key City Foundation Octoberfest 5K Fun Run

—What: This is a 5K fundraiser for Key City Foundation's youth sports programs in Frederick County. There are 5K and 1M race options. Kids under 10 can register for free. We offer a special discount registration fee for teachers, military, healthcare workers and first responders (police/fire/EMS). In addition to the races, there will be a family fun zone and beer garden. Volunteer opportunities are also available. A portion of the race proceeds will be donated to nonprofit organization Athletes Serving Athletes.

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

—What: Frederick County will take part in the Drug Enforcement Agency's (DEA) National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. This semi-annual drive-through event offers county residents the opportunity to safely dispose of potentially dangerous, expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs and prevent medicine misuse or diversion. As an additional service to the community, the event will also provide for the disposal of used or unused sharps including syringes, needles, lancets, and auto injectors.

—Where: Law enforcement and Health Department personnel will be collecting medicines and sharps in a drive-through event format at the following locations:

Literacy Council Volunteer Information Sessions

—What: The Literacy Council is seeking volunteers to be trained as tutors for our one-to-one/small group tutoring program. In addition, they are also seeking volunteers with teaching experience and/or experience working with English Language Learners to lead curriculum-based ESL classes that will meet weekly for 60-90 minutes for 10-12 weeks. Classes are currently virtual on Zoom, and in-person. Note: All sessions are currently being, offered as Zoom calls. An email will be sent with specific instructions following online registration at the link below. All volunteers must be over the age, of 18 and live or work in Frederick County.
