Thursday's game: Clippers 12, Cubs 6

Recap: Logan Allen's Triple-A debut was one to forget, but Nolan Jones and the Clippers bullpen bailed him out. Allen lasted just 2/3 of an inning, allowing five runs on six hits and a walk with two strikeouts. But five relievers combined to give up just two hits and a run with Adam Scott (4-2) getting the win and James Karinchak and Jake Jewell each getting three strikeouts. The offense broke free in the sixth inning with six runs, highlighted by a Jones grand slam. Jones finished with five RBIs and Will Brennan, who had three hits, homered in the eighth.

Of Note: Allen, who was 5-3 with a 3.33 ERA with Double-A Akron, was 3-0 over his last four starts (25.2 innings, 9 hits, 5 earned runs, six walks 39 strikeouts and a 1.75 ERA). ... The Clippers had a 14-12 record in June.
