Burberry grows despite feeling pain in Hong Kong

Burberry says sales are on the up.

The British luxury brand got a boost from popular collections by new designer Riccardo Tisci.

That more than offset a double digit decline in sales in Hong Kong.

Business has been hit by the political unrest there.

Protests have disrupted trading across the city, and kept tourists away.

That's a problem for luxury brands, for which Hong Kong is a gateway to mainland Chinese shoppers.

Burberry says its new strategy remains on track though.

First half revenue was up 3% overall, with comparable store sales up even more.

Chief executive Marco Gobbetti is moving the brand further upmarket.

He's also focusing it more on premium store locations in markets such as the U.S.

The company says growth and margins look broadly stable for the year, despite its problems in Hong Kong.
