‘It’s like it’s a burden:’ Georgia voters finish early voting in runoff with national implications

Georgia voters are set to wrap up the final day of early voting ahead of the runoff election between incumbent Democratic US Senator Raphael Warnock and Republican candidate Herschel Walker and the a race has national implications.

All eyes are on Georgia for the second election in as many years and voters feel the pressure.

Judicial appointments, budgets, subpoena power and committee majorities all hang in the balance of the Georgia runoff.

For Republican voters like Devan Odem, they’re hoping to avoid another loss like the one that gave Democrats the majority in the US Senate last year.

“The Republicans need to show out and show that we can do what the Democrats did to us,” said Odem.

Democrats like Roosevelt Gamble are hoping they’ll be able to build on their slim majority in the chamber.

“That way you don’t have to worry about that one Democrat that don’t want to go your way,” said Gamble.

But the idea Democrats could potentially push through judicial nominations and appointees without Republican support is a key concern for Republican voter Guy May.

“What are they gonna ram through if there’s not a fair balance in our Senate?” said May.

More than 1.4 million Georgia voters have already cast a ballot ahead of Election Day Tuesday.

Because of the national implications of the race, voters Action News Jax spoke with said their vote feels like it carries a little more weight than it has in the past.

“It’s tough. It really is and we have some important decisions to make and Georgia is really a tipping spot,” said Odem.

“You could say it’s like it’s a burden. You know, you gotta come out here and vote now. And if you don’t, you can’t complain,” said Gamble.
