Burgers and baked oatmeal: Two breakfast/brunch/lunch spots open in Johnson County

Croissant French toast. Baked oatmeal. Signature cocktails.

Those are just some of the offerings at Johnson County’s two new breakfast, brunch and lunch spots.

HomeGrown in Leawood

Wichita’s HomeGrown entered the market in 2021 with a Brookside restaurant.

Now it has opened in Camelot Court, 11705 Roe Ave., Suite A, Leawood. Corner Bakery Cafe had formerly operated in the spot.

HomeGrown’s made-from-scratch menu includes its popular coffee cake with a warm buttermilk caramel sauce, croissant French toast, baked oatmeal with fresh berries and pecans, biscuits and gravy, omelets and scrambles, eggs Benedict (with cage-free eggs), and house-made Pop-Tarts-style pastries (brown sugar cinnamon or a seasonal flavor).

For lunch, it has Cuban and turkey avocado sandwiches, salads such as the Power BLT with broccoli and kale, cream of tomato soup, fresh fruit and roasted vegetables.

Drinks include mimosas with fresh-squeezed orange juice, and margaritas.

Owners and founders Jon and Lauren Rolph of Thrive Restaurant Group have three restaurants in Wichita, and one in Des Moines. Another is scheduled to open July 10 in Springdale, Arkansas. They also have an area location in Liberty and they hope to announce a fourth area location soon.

Another Broken Egg Cafe in Prairie Village

Another Broken Egg Cafe opened at 5358 W. 95th St. in Prairie Village.

It features a Southern-inspired menu including shrimp and grits, crab cake Benedict, Mardi Gras omelet (with crawfish, shrimp, andouille and red peppers), biscuits and gravy, huevos rancheros, club sandwiches, bacon burgers and a Southwest chop salad with black beans and crispy tortilla chips. It also has a full bar and signature cocktails.

Seasonal selections include the country fried steak Benedict, honey lemon blueberry French toast, and Key West Cakes with sweet cream cheese and topped with kiwi puree, graham cracker crumbs and margarita-spiked whipped cream.

It is the company’s 89th location. Area franchisee Britney Valas also opened an Overland Park restaurant at 13386 Metcalf Ave. in 2020.

Locally owned breakfast and lunch spot, The Big Biscuit, operates just a few doors down from the new Prairie Village location.
