Burglary charges filed on 2 Joplin men

Jan. 17—The Jasper County prosecutor's office has filed burglary charges on two suspects in a recent home break-in and subsequent alleged trespassing in Joplin.

Aidyn B. Collins, 18, was charged with first-degree burglary and second-degree burglary following the investigation of a break-in Jan. 11 at his father's home in the 300 block of South McKinley Avenue.

The front door of the residence was pried open and a PlayStation 5 video game system and 25 video games were stolen in the burglary, according to a police report and a probable-cause affidavit filed in the case. The items carried a total value of $2,170.

The victim, Gary Collins, reported that he suspected his son, who had been kicked out of the residence a few months previously, was involved in the break-in.

Collins and Lance I. Ragland, 21, were located in the garage of a residence in the 2700 block of East Eighth Street and taken into custody when it was learned that Ragland had been found trespassing on the property Jan. 1 and asked not to return. Police reportedly recovered the items stolen in the McKinley Avenue burglary in the garage of the Eighth Street residence.

Collins was charged with burglary at both addresses and Ragland with second-degree burglary regarding their alleged holing up in the Eighth Street garage. Collins remains in custody on a $1,000 cash bond and Ragland on a $3,500 surety or $500 cash bond. Both have bond modification hearings set for next Wednesday.
