In an interview on “CBS Mornings” Thursday, 2024 GOP presidential candidate and North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum said “both sides” of the political aisle are untrustworthy.

When asked about what he thinks about the recent fourth indictment of former President Trump, Burgum deflected and began talking about his campaign’s goals. He said he wants to “leave it up to” others to discuss the topics surrounding Trump’s legal woes.

“We’re trying to talk about the future,” Burgum said. “So, our whole campaign is how we’re going to improve every American life, what we’re going to do on economy, on energy policy, on national security, we can move it forward.”

Burgum, who announced his presidential candidacy in June, has a history of tiptoeing around questions about the former president and his legal woes. In an interview with George Stephanopoulos earlier this month, he dodged five questions regarding Trump and the criminal charges he faces.

“We’ve got to be looking to the future, not to the past. Presidential campaigns should be about the future, not about the past. And that’s what we’re bringing, that voice to this — to this campaign,” Burgum previously said on ABC’s “This Week.”

Similarly, in a June interview on “The Hugh Hewitt Show,” Burgum deflected when asked a question about pardoning Trump.

“If you want to ask someone about pardoning President Trump, I mean, ask Biden,” Burgum said at the time.
