Burkina Faso fined by FIFA

Burkina Faso have been handed a fine and had their result against Congo in a 2014 World Cup qualifier annulled for fielding an ineligible player. The player in question, defender Herve Xavier Zengue, took part in Les Etalons' clash with Congo at the start of June despite not being registered to represent them. The Cameroon-born player has been capped six times by Burkina Faso, prompting the Namibia to report them to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). As a result, the West Africans have been fined 6,000 Swiss francs while the result against Congo has been altered to reflect a 3-0 defeat by forfeit. A statement from FIFA read: "The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has decided that the Burkina Faso FA has breached the disciplinary code on ineligibility. "The match between Burkina Faso and Congo on the 2nd of June 2012 is declared to be lost by forfeit [0-3] by Burkina Faso, and the Burkina Faso FA have been fined 6,000 Swiss francs [?4,950]." Zengue currently holds a Burkina Faso passport after marrying a local woman, but Namibia objected to his international participation due to the fact that he has not lived in the country for longer than five years, nor does he have any paternal ties to any of its citizens.
