Burlington boys golf team finishes fourth at Sabre Invitational in DeWitt

DEWITT -- The Burlington High School boys golf team continued its stellar season Tuesday, finishing fourth in the Sabre Invitational at Springbrook Country Club.

Burlington finished with a 318 total. North Scott won with a 308, followed by Central DeWitt (313) and Davenport Assumption (314).

Burlington sophomore Tomas Rascon was runner-up medalist with a 1-over-par 73, while senior Mateo Rascon was third with a 74.

Also for the Grayhounds, Carson Ziegler carded an 82, Rich Bliesener shot an 89, Thomas Fell had a 103 and Matt Rehman shot a 101.

Burlington hosts Ottumwa in a dual at 1 p.m. Sept. 29 at Burlington Golf Club.

VOLLEYBALL

MACOMB 25-25, ILLINI WEST 19-21: Josie Bryan and Reagan Reed each had seven kills, but the Chargers dropped a home match to the Bombers at Carthage, Illinois.

Bryan added six assists and three aces for the Chargers, while Reed had five assists and six digs. Abi White had eight digs and two aces, Kaelyn Ferrill had eight digs and Madalyn Boyer had one ace.

Illini West (10-4) plays at 7 p.m. Thursday at Quincy Notre Dame.

ED STONE PLAYS FORT MADISON, FAIRFIELD: The Ed Stone seventh grade volleyball team played Fort Madison Tuesday and at Fairfield on Monday.

Against Fort Madison, the "Adventurous Team" lost, 21-16, 13-21, 15-4. Ava Brandenburg had six aces and three assists, Josie Newell had five aces and one assist. Bricelyn Patton had four kills, Ty'Rhianna (Tari) Morris had three aces, Tenley Haushknecht had one ace and two kills and Kinsley McConahay had one kill.

The "Bold Team" won, 21-15, 21-15. Naomi Lewis had three aces and two kills, Amariana (Mari) Chew had three aces, Ty/Kria Roach had two aces and one kill, Florrah Mehaffy and Roz Whalen each had two aces, Grace Scott had one ace and one kills and Eliza Ertz and Gwendolyn Francis each had one ace and one assist.

The "Courageous Team" lost , 21-13. Charliya Sneed had toe aces and Stormy McPherson had one ace.

The "Determined Team" lost, 21-19. Zoe Myers had two aces, Anastasia Collins had two kills, Taraj Allen, Aeranna Osborn and Kelsie Ann Wales each had one ace and Chazlyn Boyd and Ashiya Thornton each had one kill.

Against Fairfield, the "Adventurous Team" won, 21-13, 21-7. Newell had five aces and two assists, Brandenburg had five aces and one kill, McConahay had three aces, Morris and Patton each had one ace and Alyssa Burchett and Caris Jolin each had one kill.

The "Bold Team" lost, 21-11, 21-10. Lewis had one ace and one kill, Roach and Scott each had an ace, Brooklyn Dochterman and Hadlie Renard each had a kill and Chew had an assist.

The "Courageous Team" lost, 21-10. Serenity Bessine had one ace and one kill, while McPherson and Aubree Wood each had an ace.

The "Determined Team" lost, 21-17. Collins had one ace and two kills.
