Burlington will bring a department store to this busy Lexington corridor

A national chain known for its clothing and accessories has plans to come to Lexington.

A spokesperson for the town of Lexington confirmed that Burlington, which has more than 800 stores across 46 states, is prepping a location in the 5300 block of Sunset Boulevard in Lexington. The Burlington is under construction right next door to the Hobby Lobby store at 5322 Sunset Blvd.

Construction workers were on the site when a reporter stopped by briefly earlier this week. An opening date for the location hasn’t been publicly announced.

Burlington describes itself on its website as “a nationally recognized off-price retailer.” The company did more than $9 billion in sales in 2021. The stores were once formally, and famously, known as Burlington Coat Factory, but dropped the “Coat Factory” from the name a number of years ago to “better reflect the amazing and varied assortment of merchandise” the store carries, the Burlington website says.

Burlington carries clothing for men, women and kids, as well as personal care products, home office goods, some electronics and more.

The store will be coming to an absolutely bustling area of Lexington. Aside from the aforementioned Hobby Lobby, the shopping center where it is going also includes Ulta Beauty, MOD Pizza, a new Nothing Bundt Cakes location, a Prisma Health internal medicine facility and other businesses.

More than 38,000 cars per day travel down Sunset Boulevard in that area, according to state Department of Transportation data.
