Burlington County motorcyclist dies in Plumsted accident

A motorcyclist was killed in an accident in Plumsted on Wednesday evening, according to police.

At 7:20 p.m., the 64-year-old man from the Cookstown section of New Hanover in Burlington County was driving east on Route 528 near Cordwell Street when the vehicle in front of him stopped short. The motorcyclist hit his brakes, causing the bike to fall to the pavement, Lt. Jason Reilly of the Plumsted Police Department said.

The accident shut down Route 528 between Hawkin Road and Route 539 for a few hours, according to the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office.

The man — whose name has not been revealed — was taken to the emergency department at Deborah Heart and Lung Center in Pemberton where he died of his injuries, police said.
