Burlington fall high school sports playoffs: Complete scores as seasons come to end

As the regular season for fall high school sports come to a close, eyes begin turning toward the postseason, long playoff runs and, in some cases, state championship dreams.

Friday, Nov. 18, Update

Alamance County teams' hopes of a state football championship came to an end in a host of close games at home and on the road.

Tuesday, Nov. 8, Update

The second round of the NCHSAA state football tournament has been moved up one day for most of the eastern half of North Carolina due to expected bad weather from Nicole, the tropical system forming in the Atlantic Ocean just off the coast of Florida.

See the full schedule for local games below.

Also, Alamance County's hopes of a third boys soccer state championship in four years came to an end Monday night as top-seeded Williams was upset by Jacksonville. The Cardinals and Bulldogs have squared off in several recent playoffs, with Jacksonville getting the edge this time.

Saturday, Oct. 29, Update

Alamance County put three teams into the 3-A state football playoffs when the NCHSAA brackets came out Saturday. But it will be down to only one by the end of Round 2.

The pairings and RPI slotted Western Alamance and Williams against each other in Round 1, with the winner travelling to, likely, No. 2 seed Eastern Alamance the following week. The Bulldogs, whose three losses came by a combined 12 points, were sent down to the No. 15 seed and will play the Warriors for the second time in a month. Williams won the first matchup 21-10 on Oct. 7.

It's another rematch to open the playoffs in 2-A; Cummings will play Bartlett Yancey again after beating the Buccaneers 32-14 on Sept. 29.

In the state soccer playoffs announced Friday, Williams is the No. 1 seed in 3-A East as it goes for another championship. Defending champion Western Alamance is ranked No. 13. First-round games are Monday.
