Burlington rolls past Southeast Conference rival Fort Madison in volleyball

Ayla Cannon and Anna Buxton combined for 37 kills to lead the Burlington High School volleyball team to a 25-16, 25-27, 25-10, 25-18 victory over Fort Madison Tuesday in a Southeast Conference match at the Hound Dome in Fort Madison.

Cannon added four block assists and a solo block, while Buxton had three aces and 13 digs.

Also for the Grayhounds, Avery Levins had 20 digs and three aces, Marissa Huff had 18 assists and Sophie Brown had 15 assists. Huff was 16-for-16 serving with two aces.

Burlington improved to to 8-10 overall  (2-1 Southeast Conference).

NO. 4 WEST BURLINGTON 25-25-25, DANVILLE 18-9-6: Sophia Armstrong had 14 kills and Lauren Summers had 16 digs as Class 2A's fourth-ranked Falcons rolled to an SEI Superconference South Division home win over the Bears.

McKenna Marlow had eight kills and 11 digs for the Falcons, while Isabelle Ritter had six kills and eight digs, Taryn Havener had two kills and Abbey Bence had 23 assists and two kills.

Also for the Falcons, Ale Kellen had eight digs and was 17-for-17 serving.  Bella Blaufus had seven digs, while Armstrong had five blocks and Glasgow had two blocks.

Jaeda Molle had an ace, four digs and seven assists for the Bears. Kenna Furnald had five digs, two assists and three kills. Rylee Morris had four kills and an ace. Micah Svoboda had  11 digs, five kills and four assists. Carlea Beckman had eight  digs. Alexis Dietsch  had five  digs  and three kills. and Isabella Mitchell had four digs.

West Burlington (15-2) plays Thursday at Class 1A's 11th-ranked Holy Trinity.

NO. 10 NEW LONDON 25-25-25, VAN BUREN COUNTY 16-16-23: Class 1A's 10th-ranked Tigers swept a South Division match at Keosauqua.

Elly Manning had four kills, 24 assists, 13 digs and three aces for the Tigers. Emma Nye had three kills, three aces and 20 digs, joining the 1,000 assists club. Sophie Malott had seven kills, two aces and 16 digs. Natalie Burden finished with 12 kills, three aces and eight digs. Camryn Lair had two kills and three digs. Tysann Gipple had five kills and two digs. Morgan Jones had 13 digs.

New London hosts Mediapolis on Thursday.

WINFIELD-MOUNT UNION 25-25-25, HILLCREST ACADEMY 3-7-15: Melina Oepping and Bradie Buffington each had six kills and Kelly Malone had 19 assists as the Wolves swept the Ravens in a North Division match at Winfield.

Also for the Wolves Keetyn Townsley had seven digs and Oepping added five digs, Buffington had a pair of blocks, Malone had nine aces and Townsley had six aces. The Wolves missed just five serves and had a whopping 23 aces.

Winfield-Mount Union (13-5, 3-0) plays Thursday at Lone Tree.

WAPELLO 25-25-25, LONE TREE 16-13-14: The Arrows swept a North Division match from the Lions at Wapello.

Quinn Veach had seven kills, 13 digs and three aces for the Arrows, while Emily Hemphill had six kills, 14 digs and four aces. Tyra Lanz had four kills and a pair of aces, while Madalyn Lanz had three kills. Jacie Hoeg put up 21 assists for the Arrows, while Lyv Malone had 17 digs.

HIGHLAND 26-25-19-25, COLUMBUS 24-21-25-19: The Wildcats were knocked off in a North Division match at Columbus Junction.

Sara Vela had three kills, 21 assists, nine aces and three digs for the Wildcats. Aracely Garza had nine kills, two aces and six digs, while Jacelyn Hernandez had seven kills and a pair of blocks. Kennedy Woepking had three kills and two blocks.

FAIRFIELD 25-25-25, KEOKUK 17-17-12: Makenna Altgibers had five kills, three digs and two blocks, but the Chiefs dropped a home Southeast Conference match to the Trojans at Wright Fieldhouse.

Kayleigh Zanger added 18 digs for the Chiefs, while Anna Hinton had three kills and two digs, Rachel Moore had three digs, Brittney Kelley had six assists and seven digs, Kendra Boatman had six assists and 12 digs and Olivia Rule had three digs.

Keokuk hosts Danville on Thursday.

WEST HANCOCK 25-27, WEST CENTRAL 15-25: Paige Wasielewski had three kills and Paiyton Huston, Jadyn Climer, and Breanna Peterson each had two as the Titans swept the Heat in a non-conference match at The Fire Pit in Biggsville, Illinois.

Bianca Hill had eight assists for the Titans, while Abbie Morrison and Hailey Harl each had three aces. Harl had nine digs, Wasielewski had eight and Paiyton Huston had seven digs. Breanna Peterson had three blocks and Jadyn Climer had two.

Harlee Hainds and Bailey Ferguson each had three kills to lead the Heat. Ferguson also had four assists , one ace and six digs, while Hainds had a pair of locks. Gracey Winters added eight digs and Shelby Bowman had two aces.

West Hancock improved to 5-5, while West Central dropped to 5-9.
