Red Flag Warning in multiple QCA counties

UPDATE: A Red Flag Warning was issued by the National Weather Service for Monday across the Quad Cities area.

The warning is in effect from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. due to very high to extreme fire conditions for eastern Iowa and portions of Illinois.

Any fires will spread rapidly and be very difficult to control in these dangerous conditions.

Outdoor burning should be avoided.

A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.

Clinton County
Des Moines County
Henderson County
Henry County, Illinois
Henry County, Iowa
Jackson County
Jo Daviess County
Knox County
Louisa County
Mercer County
Muscatine County
Rock Island County
Scott County
Warren County
Washington County
Whiteside County

EARLIER UPDATE: Clinton County Emergency Management, representing each fire department having all or part of its fire district within Clinton County, now prohibits open burning in Clinton County, according to a news release.

The burn ban is in effect now “until such time as Clinton County Emergency Management, representing each fire department having all or part of their fire district within Clinton County, has determined that such conditions dangerous to life or property no longer exists.”

The proclamation was issued by the state fire marshal. “That proclamation pursuant to this section shall not prohibit a supervised, controlled burn for which a permit has been issued by the fire chief of the fire district where the burn will take place, the use of outdoor fireplaces, barbecue grills, properly supervised landfills, or the burning of trash in incinerators or trash
burners made of metal, concrete, masonry, or heavy one-inch wire mesh, with no openings greater than one square inch,” the release says.

A violation is a simple misdemeanor, according to the release.
