Burning vehicle blocks traffic on highway running through the Midlands

Drivers making the Thursday morning commute on the highway connecting Columbia and Charleston were delayed after a vehicle went up in flames in the Midlands, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Multiple lanes were blocked on Interstate 26 following a vehicle fire that happened at about 8:20 a.m., according to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety.

The traffic jam was near the 158 mile marker, which is in Orangeburg County, the Highway Patrol said.

There was no word if any injuries were caused by the fire.
