Recently, eight students graduated from Cleveland Community College’s first high school cohort in the Pharmacy Technician Academy.

Among them was Joseph Wedgeworth, a senior at Burns High School, who not only completed the Pharmacy Technician Academy before graduating high school but has already passed the national certification exam to become a Certified Pharmacy Technician.

“The dedication these students have shown is amazing,” said Mark Woodall, Pharmacy Technician Academy instructor. “Not only are they graduating from this program, but at the same time they have been completing high school, working, attending prom, and experiencing all those high school milestones.”

Wedgeworth will attend Wingate University in the fall, majoring in Exercise Science. His ultimate goal is to become a physical therapist. He has already been accepted into Wingate’s Exercise Science/Doctor of Physical Therapy Early Assurance Program.

Wedgeworth said he thought attending the Pharmacy Technician Academy would be a great way to get an early start in health care.

“It was an interesting class,” he said. “It was neat learning about a different type of science.”

He plans to use his new skills and certification to work while attending college.
