Burnside Center helps seniors with Medicare Part D open enrollment

Burnside Senior Center is offering help those who have changes to their Medicare Part D prescription plans.

Medicare Part D Open Enrollment is Oct. 15 - Dec. 7. It's the opportunity each year for Medicare recipients to make changes to their prescription coverage. The Branch County Commission on Aging has counselors available at the Burnside Center to help Branch County seniors review their Part D options.

Debbie Ambrose, MMAP coordinator at the Burnside Center in Coldwater, said, "It’s important to review your coverage annually, even if you’re happy with your current plan. Costs and coverage of the plans change from year to year so there may be options of better value.”

The Medicare Medicaid Assistance Program (MMAP) are “seniors helping seniors.” The team of counselors are trained with the most up-to-date information on Part D prescription plans, as well as other programs and benefits related to Medicare and Medicaid. Local volunteers include Mike Ringer, Janet Shidler, Debbie Shire and Lucinda Wakeman, led by Ambrose.

MMAP counselors are not affiliated with any insurance companies and cannot sell anything; they simply help those interested find options to make the best decisions. This is a free and unbiased service available to all Branch County seniors.

The MMAP office is scheduling Open Enrollment appointments now. Both in-person and phone appointments are available. To schedule an appointment all the Burnside Center at 279-6565, ext. 129.
