Burnside's Sellers awarded by Kentucky League of Cities

Oct. 27—A member of the Burnside City Council has been recognized for his dedication to his role as a city official by the Kentucky League of Cities.

Dwayne Sellers has been given a Level II Excellence in City Governance Award by the Kentucky League of Cities (KLC), which administers the City Officials Training Center, a voluntary education program.

In that program, city officials can complete education levels by attending KLC events and submitting outside educational credit from other municipal training.

The Level II Excellence in City Governance award requires a city official to attend a minimum of 58 hours of approved training with two hours of ethics training.

"KLC is committed to helping local leaders continuously learn and grow," said KLC Executive Director and CEO James D. Chaney. "This award, achieved through the KLC City Officials Training Center program, is a testament to the dedication and community service of Councilmember Sellers."

Burnside Mayor Robert Lawson said he was glad that Sellers had taken an interest in the training, something Lawson said he has always encouraged for council members.

"Dwayne put in a lot of hours to get that," said Lawson. "That's just him doing his job, and I appreciate him going and taking his job seriously and learning what it is to be a city councilor."

Sellers was first elected to the council in 2010, and has served ever since.

He said he's been through KLC training several times now, which includes up-to-date information on laws and regulations.

"I do appreciate (KLC); they're a (source of a) lot of help and knowledge for us," said Sellers. "When we get into something we're not sure of, we just give them a call."

Asked why he's done the training, Sellers said, "We want to do things right."

The Kentucky League of Cities is a non-profit membership organization that provides resources such as legal services, consulting, legislative advocacy, and more to over 370 cities and municipal agencies in the Bluegrass State.
