Burton woman killed in Saturday morning crash

SHERWOOD TWP. — A 45-year-old Burton woman died early Saturday after a two-car crash in Sherwood Township.

Mollie Salina Royce died in a near head-on crash in the early hours of Oct. 22 on M-60.

Michigan State Police said Royce was eastbound on Mendon Road at about 12:45 a.m. when her 2000 Pontiac Bonneville crossed the center line into the westbound lane near Blossom Road.

The driver of a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado, a 57-year-old Colon man, could not avoid the Pontiac. The impact sent the truck off the westbound side of the road and sent Royce's vehicle off the eastbound side of the roadway. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

LifeCare transported Vanwormer to ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital to treat his injuries. MSP did not release further information.

The crash is still under investigation by troopers. They could not immediately tell if alcohol or drugs played a factor in the crash.

The crash was west of the M-60/M-66 intersection on a flat straight section of the highway.
