Busch Gardens: Big swinging ride opens this month

Serengeti Flyer, a giant swing ride, will open to the public Feb. 27, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay announced Wednesday.

The 135-foot-tall attraction features side-by-side swings that hold 20 passengers apiece. Folks are seated in back-to-back rows of 10 people, so while half the riders are going forward, the other half are moving backward. There will be negative-G moments, as the arms move progressively higher and higher.

Serengeti Flyer reaches speeds of up to 68 mph, Busch Gardens said.

The park’s website touts the new attraction as “the world’s tallest and fastest ride of its kind.”

Busch Gardens annual passholders will have exclusive ride times on Serengeti Flyer on Feb. 24, the park said.

The ride, announced in October, is located in the Serengeti Plain section of the park, which is owned and operated by Orlando-based SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment. It’s the first major addition to Busch Gardens Tampa Bay since Iron Gwazi opened last March.
