Conrad was outstanding last week in an important District 2-2A game against Kress.

He struck out 12, while allowing three hits and no runs in seven innings, to lead Claude to a 4-0 victory.

"He showed up early to the field and was prepared mentally for the game," said Claude coach Gaeron Cooley, whose squad improved to 4-4 overall and 2-1 in district action. "After he walked the first batter of the game, his nerves settled and he found his groove. I think he trusted his defense, and he could just focus on one batter at a time."

Adams was the Amarillo Globe-News Player of the Year last year and preseason Player of the Year this season. She's more than lived up to those titles and was in particularly fine form last week.

Against Tulia in nondistrict action, she had one of her best games of the season.

She went 3-for-3, with all three hits being home runs, to help her net six RBI. Adams also struck out eight batters, while allowing one hit in four innings. She was excellent in the circle against Dimmitt as well, striking out 11 while giving up just one hit.

"I don't know if there's a player who could have a better week than she did last week," Pampa coach John Blair said. "She's one of those players that every time the game comes around she's ready. It doesn't matter who we're playing or what the situation is. She steps up and does whatever the team needs her to do. This is my 30th year of coaching softball. ... She very well could be one of the most complete softball players I've ever coached."
