Women in Business symposium

Central Florida SCORE will hold its fifth annual symposium Sept. 16 at Catapult Lakeland, 502 E. Main St., Lakeland. Registration and breakfast will begin at 8 a.m., and the program will be from 8:30 a.m. to noon. A single ticket is $40. Pre-registration is required. Limited seating. Keynote speaker is Nicole Welch, Get Heart Media founder, Guarantee Realty manager, and Florida Southern College adjunct professor. Welch will present “Face It ‘Til You Make It.” She attended the University of West Florida and Troy State University in Alabama and is working on her Ph.D. in psychology. Welch’s most significant professional accomplishment is being able to care for and treat the mentally ill in the community and inpatient (Peace River Center and Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center) for more than 22 years. Sallie Brisbane-Stone will follow with “Now That’s a Stretch.” Brisbane-Stone is the founder and chief executive officer of The Well. She got her inspiration from her mother, who raised seven children after the passing of Brisbane-Stone's father, a sergeant in the U.S. Army. Her passion is to serve the underrepresented, women, veterans and people who face barriers because of their age or gender. Ending the morning will be a panel discussion comprised of experienced and successful women entrepreneurs. SCORE is a non-profit organization sponsored by the Small Business Administration, offering free mentoring and low-cost educational workshops.

Chamber new business workshop

"New Business 101," a four-week workshop on finalizing business plans, begins Sept. 8 and takes place each Thursday for four weeks from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Industry experts will discuss small business banking, loan options, marketing strategies and more. Attendance is limited. Register by going to https://business.lakelandchamber.com/events and finding the event on the calendar. Topics covered include: business planning, marketing and branding, human resources and legal disc profiles, business banking and taxes, city permits and licensing. The workshop will take place at the Lakeland Chamber of Commerce, 35 Lake Morton Drive, in the downstairs Chamber Briefing Room. A $25 deposit is required to hold your spot.
