Discount Drug Mart launches annual MDA Shamrocks Campaign

MEDINA − Seventy-seven locations in Ohio, including Mansfield, will raise funds to empower the lives of children and adults living with muscular dystrophy, ALS and related neuromuscular diseases now through March 14 for the annual MDA Shamrocks campaign to benefit the mission of the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). Funds raised go towards accelerating research, advancing care, and advocating for the support of families.

Discount Drug Mart is adding an iconic paper Shamrock (pinup) to their purchase at check out for just $1, $5 or a larger contribution. Each pinup has a coupon for a 20 ounce bottle of 7UP attached. Discount Drug Mart joins thousands of other retail locations throughout the country in this year’s campaign − the nation’s largest St. Patrick’s Day-themed fundraiser. MDA Shamrocks will be displayed in Discount Drug Mart stores across Ohio visually declaring support for the cause.

The MDA Shamrocks campaign benefits the MDA Care Center at Children's Hospital Medical Center of Akron in Akron, OH; Dean Martin Neuromuscular Clinic in Youngstown, OH; MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, OH; and Toledo Children's Hospital in Toledo, OH. Funds raised also make MDA Summer Camp possible for Ohio area children.

Firelands Electric Cooperative sponsoring Terrific Teachers Contest

NEW LONDON − Through March 9, Firelands Electric is asking the cooperative’s member-families to nominate their elementary school’s most dedicated teachers as part of its Terrific Teachers Contest. Those teachers with the most nominations in each of two grade categories (K-2 and 3-5) will win a plaque and a prize package for their classroom. The package will be age-appropriate for their class and will include energy-themed books, games, and activities valued at approximately $100. Runners-up in each grade category will receive a package worth $50.

Winners will be announced in mid-March and be featured in an upcoming issue of Ohio Cooperative Living magazine and on Firelands’ social media outlets.

Ohio to mark In-Demand Jobs Week in May

COLUMBUS − Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine and Lt. Gov. Jon Husted have announced the sixth annual In-Demand Jobs Week will take place May1-5.

In-Demand Jobs Week is designed to promote Ohio’s most in-demand and fastest-growing industries through statewide hiring, education, and training events. This year, In-Demand Jobs Week will highlight Ohio’s top jobs that stem from career-focused education and the various paths available to Ohioans as they look for their next opportunity.

Throughout the week, businesses, education providers, community organizations and more are encouraged to plan unique opportunities that will inspire students and job seekers to pursue a career pathway and ultimately a job in Ohio.
