Mechanics Bank announces promotions

Mechanics Bank has announced two promotions.

Amanda Boyce has been promoted to assistant vice president. Boyce joined Mechanics in 2019 with over 19 years of experience in banking. She served as a private banker and human resources specialist prior to her current role of assistant human resources manager.

Ann Akers has been promoted to assistant vice president. Akers joined Mechanics in 2023 with over 20 years of experience in banking. She is currently serving as the risk quality assurance manager. Akers has bachelor's and master’s degrees in business administration from Ashland University and an associate of arts degree from The Ohio State University.

Mechanics Bank is Richland County’s only independent, community bank with nine locations in Richland County.

New business creations grow in Ohio

COLUMBUS — Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose announced 16,409 new business filings in May 2023, up 12% from May of last year. Although still below prior record-setting years of 2019-2021, Ohio business filings remain ahead of the previous year’s pace by more than 3%, reflecting 83,055 total businesses filed so far in 2023.

Ohio entrepreneurs can visit OhioSoS.gov/BusinessResources to discover the helpful opportunities available to them that can help them start and grow their business.

LaRose says he is currently working with the legislature to pass legislation to protect Ohio businesses from business identity theft and other business-related fraud.

Samaritan Hospital Foundation awards $103,000 in scholarships

ASHLAND — The Samaritan Hospital Foundation has again offered scholastic awards to local graduates residing in Ashland County, UH Samaritan Medical Center employees, and their immediate family members. To be eligible, applicants must be enrolled or accepted in an accredited program in the areas of nursing, medicine or allied medical studies.

This year, Samaritan Hospital Foundation once again increased its support for the next generation of nursing and allied medical students by increasing total grants to the highest amount to date, reaching $103,000 in scholastic awards supporting 39 local students.
