Carlee Alm-LaBar was named the new executive director of the William C. Schumacher Family Foundation, stepping away from her previous position as the president and CEO of the United Way of Acadiana, the foundation said in a release.

Alm-LaBar will lead the foundation along with Erica Doerle Ray, who was named as the foundation's CEO.

“I couldn’t be more thrilled about this new chapter for the William C. Schumacher Family Foundation," said the foundation's founder, William C. "Kip" Schumacher, in a press release. "Our variety of passions often have us involved in numerous initiatives and projects here at home as well as across the globe, and I have the utmost confidence that this team will elevate these initiatives and ensure that we’re making as significant an impact as possible with our involvement."

Heather Blanchard, United Way of Acadiana's chief operating officer, will serve as president and CEO while the organization decides on a permanent replacement for Alm-LaBar.

“Heather and Carlee have worked closely together for the last two years, and the board is confident that Heather will continue to build positive momentum,” UWA President Sean Trcalek said in a release.

Supreme Rice expanding, adding 20 Acadiana jobs

Supreme Rice, one of the state's largest rice-milling operations, is undergoing a $16.2 million expansion project to add parboil facilities in Acadia Parish, Louisiana Economic Development announced Wednesday.

The parboil facilities will be in Crowley and Mermentau and will allow the company to produce a new line of ready-to-eat products. The expansion will create 20 new direct jobs, and LED estimates the project will result in 79 indirect jobs. The company is retaining its 181 jobs at current locations.

“As a processor of one of Louisiana’s key crops, Supreme Rice is both a cultural ambassador and an agribusiness leader for our state,” Gov. John Bel Edwards said in a news release. “This expansion and the new jobs it will generate in Acadiana will help to sustain the growing momentum of our rural revitalization efforts.”

Stellar Beauty Studios and Institute hosting hair show in June

Stellar Beauty Studios and Institute, a beauty center that opened in November, is hosting a free, ticketed hair show to demonstrate what institute's students have learned since beginning the program.

The show will be held June 5. For tickets, call (337) 210-5118. The next day, the school will be hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony at 11 a.m.

The institute is located at 214 Rue Louis XIV in Lafayette and was founded by Keisha Barras of Delcambre. The school offers programs that include esthiology, cosmetology, nail technology, and alternative hair design.
