• The Conservation Foundation of the Gulf Coast has created a new landowner resources program to connect owners and managers of local ranches, farms, forests and fields with the resources they need when they need them. The program was tailored to meet the unique needs of landowners based on responses to a recent Conservation Foundation survey.

The program consists of helpful documents and videos on a designated landowner resources page on the Conservation Foundation’s website. There is also the option to receive a quarterly email newsletter with content specifically for Southwest Florida landowners, including stewardship and management information, upcoming landowner events and funding opportunities.

The first landowner community event, “Conserving Family Lands: An Evening at Longino Ranch,” will be Dec. 2, 3-6 p.m., at the Arcadia ranch. Local cattlemen and conservation professionals will share personal stories of community, family and business, including how land conservation has laid the groundwork for the future.

Visit https://conservationfoundation.com/landowners to learn more about the free event.

Sarasota Memorial Hospital is among a select group of world-class heart institutions participating in an international clinical trial of the world’s first true dual-chamber, leadless pacemaker for people with slow and irregular heart rhythms.

Sarasota Memorial’s electrophysiology team, led by cardiac electrophysiologists Dr. Dilip Mathew and Dr. Robert Eckhart, implanted the investigational device in patients at SMH in July and September. All of the patients are doing well and will be monitored by their physicians and the Sarasota Memorial Research Institute team at regular intervals until the study period ends next year.

The Food and Drug Administration approved Abbott’s Aveir VR single-chamber, leadless pacemaker this spring after a pivotal, multi-center trial found it safe and effective for certain patients with abnormal heart rhythms.

The Aveir VR leadless pacemaker, which is now commercially available at Sarasota Memorial, was designed for expandability and potential upgrade to a dual-chamber system with regulatory approval in the future.

SMH is one of 80 research sites globally testing Abbott’s Aveir DR dual-chamber leadless pacemaker.

The leadless pacemakers, inserted via a minimally invasive catheter-based procedure, offer a number of benefits over traditional pacemakers.

For more information about Aveir’s leadless pacemaker study or other clinical trials, contact the Sarasota Memorial Research Institute at 941-917-2225.

Sunnyside Village, in Sarasota, has earned the Gold Level credential of the Montessori Inspired Lifestyle program.

Sunnyside is one of the first communities in the United States to implement this superior credential across its whole campus, becoming a model for the senior living industry.

The Montessori Inspired Lifestyle program was created by the Center for Applied Research in Dementia after co-founder Dr. Cameron Camp adapted Dr. Maria Montessori’s principles for older adults with dementia. Dr. Camp and associates taught Sunnyside staff how to integrate the Montessori principles into their community.

Sunnyside staff are trained to empower residents with memory impairment to be as independent as possible. This advanced Montessori-based approach to memory care taps into each resident’s remaining strengths, designing environments in which they can thrive and helping them find purposeful activities and meaningful roles within their community.

Sunnyside’s newest addition, Shepherd’s Landing Memory Care, is slated to open in late 2022.
