Stormont Vail Health announced that Christopher Wilson is joining the organization to practice as a behavioral health physician at Stormont Vail Hospital, 1500 S.W. 10th Ave., Topeka. Wilson was born in Overland Park and grew up in the Missouri area. After receiving his undergraduate degree from Drury University in Springfield, Missouri, he went on to complete medical school at Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine on a military scholarship. Once finishing medical school, Wilson was moved to Hawaii on active duty with the U.S. Army and completed his residency in psychiatry. After Hawaii, he was stationed at Fort Riley in Manhattan, where he has recently finished his time with the military and continues to reside. Wilson said psychiatry is a unique field because instead of having treatment rely completely on lab tests and imaging, he gets to understand what a patient is going through by talking to them. “Ever since I started in medical school, my ultimate goal was to help those who are suffering," he said. "Building that relationship and learning their story is really instrumental. The passion that drives me is about relieving that mental pain however I can do that.” When not working, Wilson enjoys spending time with his two children and friends.
