Barber has 18 years of experience in the health care industry and related senior care services.

He holds a bachelor's degree in health services administration from the University of Central Florida.

In his new role, Barber will market One Senior Place and its affiliate, Senior Partner Care Services, to businesses in the Central Florida senior industry sector.

Chapman named chief medical officer at St. Francis Reflections

St. Francis Reflections recently announced that Dr. Ryan Chapman was been named chief medical officer.

“We are grateful for the wonderful hospice and palliative care Dr. Chapman has provided our patients as a St. Francis physician since August of 2021, and look forward to the continued care he will provide as CMO,” said Joe Killian, president and chief executive officer of St. Francis Reflections Lifestage Care. “We are also grateful for the incredible care Dr. Loftis provided during her time here, and we wish her well on her future endeavors.”

Chapman received his bachelor’s degree from Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada, and his medical degree from Nova Southeastern University School of Osteopathic Medicine.

He completed his residency in internal medicine at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, where he also completed a hospice and palliative medicine fellowship.

Chapman is board-certified in internal medicine and in hospice and palliative medicine. He maintains professional associations with the American Medical Association and the American College of Physicians.

As chief medical officer, Chapman will oversee the St. Francis Reflections Lifestage Care clinicians, board-certified hospice and palliative medicine physicians as they provide compassionate and intentional care for their patients. His medical background and his passion for individualized patient care make St. Francis confident that he will excel in his new role as chief medical officer, and further elevate the level of care patients receive.

BRPH accepting applications for minority student scholarships

BRPH, a Brevard County-based architecture, engineering and construction firm, is awarding eight $1,000 college scholarships to minority students majoring in architecture and engineering.

It’s BRPH’s “Future Achievers Scholarship” program established last year, which offered six awards of $1,000 each.

“We created our scholarship program last year to encourage and support well-deserving, ethnically diverse students to pursue their dreams of earning an architecture or engineering degree,” said Janie McDermott, BRPH vice president, chief human resources officer, principal. “Our firm’s culture is built upon mentorship, and we take seriously our role in training the next generation. We hope these bright young scholars will one day join the BRPH team.”

To qualify, students must be ethnically diverse; maintain a 3.0 or above grade-point average; be enrolled in college as a sophomore, junior, senior or graduate student; major in architecture or civil, structural, electrical or mechanical engineering; and be a citizen or legal resident of the United States.

A 500-word essay on the topic of dignity and respect also is required.

Orion180 donates $25,000 to BCSO Charity

After growing up in the Palm Bay-Melbourne area, Orion180 Chief Executive Officer and founder Kenneth Gregg launched his company's Star Outreach Program last August to support charitable causes across the Southeast.

Now, Orion180's program is donating $25,000 to the Brevard County Sheriff's Office Charity.

"One of the things I'm a big believer in is, we want to help the area that we're in stay a great place to live, and have families, and enjoy a safe environment," Gregg said.

"I wanted to reach out the sheriff and say, 'Hey, we're here to support you,' " Gregg said.

This month, Gregg presented Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey a $25,000 check.

The BCSO charity assists law enforcement officers and firefighters in times of need such as medical emergencies and long-term illness; funds the Sheriff’s Pet Posse to help homeless pets; and funds Dream for the Badge.

The latter program, which debuted last year, lets adults and children with terminally illness or ability challenges "serve" as a uniformed deputy for a day.

"It's probably the most heartfelt thing I've ever done in my life," Ivey said.

Headquartered on U.S. 1 in Melbourne, Orion180 is a homeowners' insurance provider that was founded in 2017, and serves independent agents in the southeastern United States.

Orion180 also operates in Alabama, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. In November, the firm announced its was expanding into the Georgia market.
