Cornell assumes presidency of women lawyers group

The Brevard County Association for Women Lawyers recently announced that Robin Cornell, a Cocoa Beach-based attorney, will be the board’s president for 2022-23.

The organization also announced that Tara Couture, a Melbourne-based lawyer, will serve another year on the BCAWL board and will be its chapter representative to the Florida Association for Women Lawyers.

Cornell graduated in the top 10 of her class at the Stetson University College of Law. She graduated with honors from the Florida Institute of Technology with a degree in psychology.

BCAWL Is a local chapter of the Florida Association for Women Lawyers, which actively promotes leadership roles of women in the legal profession, judiciary and community at large.

BCAWL was founded to provide a forum for the exchange of knowledge, experiences and the common business interests of its members.

Devereux names Putnam VP of quality improvement

Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health, one of the nation’s oldest and largest nonprofit providers of behavioral health care, recently announced that Philip Putnam has been selected for the newly created position of vice president of quality improvement.

Putnam currently serves as director of legal, risk and quality at Devereux Florida.

Devereux has significant presence in Brevard County and Central Florida, with campuses in Viera and Titusville. It specialized therapeutic group homes in Melbourne and Titusville, and intellectual and developmental group homes in Brevard and Orange counties.

As vice president of quality improvement, Putnam will oversee Devereux’s quality improvement function — including developing and executing quality assurance policies and initiatives — to ensure all aspects of the organization’s clinical care are aligned with evidence-based practices and guidelines.

Putnam’s responsibilities also will include continuing Devereux’s efforts to further improve safety measures and protocols across all campuses to benefit the children, adolescents and adults served by the organization.

Putnam will collaborate with leaders to ensure positive outcomes in the following areas: clinical analytics, individuals’ safety, accreditation and regulatory compliance, and risk management.

“Philip has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to enhancing safety and quality at Devereux, and we are thrilled to welcome him to the team,” Devereux Senior Vice President and Chief Safety and Risk Officer Kelsey Lawson said. “Over the last 23 years, he has played an invaluable role at Devereux Florida, and has been instrumental in the way our overall organization monitors incident tracking and reporting, and operates its risk management programs. In his new role, Philip will help drive positive change across our campuses, ensuring our programs and services continue to operate at the highest level, and the children, adolescents and adults we serve receive the best possible care and support.”

Bassett’s Home Check Services earns accreditation

Home Check Services of Melbourne Beach, owned by Charles “Chuck” Bassett, recently earned accredited member status from the National Home Watch Association.

Bassett, a licensed Realtor the last six years, was a law enforcement officer for 29 years in Pekin, Illinois, retiring in 2002 as deputy chief of police.

He was a real estate agent/broker there for 11 years.

Bassett and his wife, Cheryl, moved to Homosassa, Florida, in 2015, to care for Cheryl’s mother.

Bassett earned his bachelor’s degree from Illinois State University; an associate’s degree from Illinois Central College; and put in many hours of graduate work. He is a graduate of the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

After the death of his wife in 2021, he moved Melbourne Beach to be closer to family.
