Nichols named airport authority business development manager

Lisa Nichols recently was named business development manager at the Titusville-Cocoa Airport Authority.

Nichols’ most recent previous role was economic development director for the city of Titusville.

The authority, also known as TICO, governs the affairs of the Airport District, which includes a three-airport system ― Space Coast Regional AirportArthur Dunn AirparkMerritt Island Airport ― and new Spaceport.

The district is created for the purpose of acquiring, constructing, improving, financing, operating and maintaining airport facilities, including buildings, structures, roads, alleyways, railroad loading and unloading facilities, and any other development of land owned or leased by the authority.

Prior to joining the city of Titusville, Nichols held key positions with the city of Rockledge, and was program manager for public affairs and government relations for NASA’s Kennedy Space Center.

Nichols graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with bachelor’s degree in psychology and English. She received her master’s degree in public administration from the University of Central Florida.

Heirston named engagement coordinator at Community Foundation

Alexandria Heirston recently was named engagement coordinator for the Community Foundation for Brevard.

Heirston is working to advance the Community Foundation for Brevard’s impact through communications and programing in the region.

Heirston, a West Melbourne resident, also creates content, and manages the foundation’s online presence and media relations efforts.

Heirston has more than five years of marketing experience, and specializes in the development and execution of strategic marketing plans. Her highest priority is building positive, lasting relationships to boost awareness of the Community Foundation and community-focused initiatives.

She graduated from the University of Central Florida in 2018 with a degree in advertising and public relations.

The Community Foundation for Brevard, which started in 1981, is a 501(c)(3) public charity focused on serving as a leader and resource for philanthropic individuals and organizations to expand, enhance and sustain Brevard’s quality of life.

City of Melbourne finance team honored

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada recently awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to the city of Melbourne for its annual comprehensive financial report for the fiscal year ended Sept. 30, 2021.

The report has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive "spirit of full disclosure" to clearly communicate its financial story, and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management. The City of Melbourne has received this award each time it has applied for it in the past 35 years.

Government Finance Officers Association established the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Program in 1945 to encourage and assist state and local governments to go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles.
