Business notebook: Expo Center events take marketing honors

Staff from the Taylor County Expo Center on Monday accepted four awards on behalf of the Western Heritage Classic and the West Texas Fair & Rodeo, presented at the 2022 Texas Association of Fairs & Events Convention in Galveston.

The Western Heritage Classic received first place awards for both "Best T-shirt Design" and "Best TV Commercial" in the category for events with attendance of 50,000 or less.

The West Texas Fair & Rodeo received the first place award for "Best Color Newspaper Ad" and second place for "Best Pin, Badge or Button" for events with attendance of 100,001 to 250,000.

Partners involved in the production of the marketing pieces include TX Tees, Bob Tallman, Salty Roan Productions, ADV Consulting, Hispanic Life Media and Plano Pins.

Fed's Powell: PPI 'mixed,' next move unlikely to be a rate hike
Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell on Tuesday said the latest report on U.S. producer prices was more "mixed" than "hot" given that prior data was revised lower even as the figures for April came in higher than expected. "I wouldn't call it hot, I'd call it mixed," Powell said at an event in Amsterdam after the Labor Department released the Producer Price Index for April. Asked if the recent run of higher-than-expected inflation might mean that the Fed's policy rate is not sufficiently restrictive to return inflation to the Fed's 2% target, Powell said "time will tell."
