Attorney Craig Goldenfarb has been appointed to the board of directors for Red Sneakers for Oakley, his law firm announced.

Red Sneakers for Oakley is a Palm Beach-based nonprofit that raises awareness about food allergies. It is named after Oakley Debbs, an 11-year-old boy who died in 2016 of anaphylactic shock following an allergic reaction.

Goldenfarb, who founded West Palm Beach-based GoldLaw in 2002, also suffers from a tree nut allergy, and was inspired to help the organization carry on its crusade after taking part in an International Red Sneakers Day event in West Palm Beach in May.

“Over the years, I’ve gone into anaphylactic shock three times, and almost died,” Goldenfarb said. “Thankfully, restaurants, airlines and schools are starting to take the problem more seriously, but we still have a lot of work to do with respect to educating the public about the severity of food allergies.”

The Red Sneakers for Oakley foundation created the Red Sneakers Day events, in which participants wear red sneakers (or anything red) to raise awareness about the dangers of food allergies.
