Boss pistol whips employee, breaks his jaw, police say

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man was arrested for allegedly pistol-whipping an employee, breaking his jaw, threatening his child, and then trying to pay him off at a hospital.

According to police, the victim arrived late to his job at Expo Stone on Lamar Avenue on Oct. 16. His employer, Othman Elkhayyat, became upset with him.

Reports state that Elkhayyat took out a gun and punched the victim in the face with it several times.

The victim ran to a business nearby, but the owner followed him and the attack continued. MPD says Elkhayyat fired a shot as the victim ran away.

Elkhayyat, who is out on bond, told WREG his ex-employee threatened him first.

“They came back after they were terminated and tried to steal our truck, and he had a screwdriver and was trying to start the truck with it and attacked me,” Elkhayyat said. “And we called the police too.”

On January 18, the victim underwent jaw surgery and stated that he would be in the hospital for at least another week.

On January 19, the victim claimed Elkhayyat called him several times threatening to hurt his son if he contacted the police. Elkhayyat allegedly sent his father to the victim’s room at a hospital to get him to sign an unknown document to receive $10,000.

Police say the father became upset and threatened to break the victim’s legs if he declined the offer.

On January 22, the victim said he received four missed calls from Elkhayyat threatening to kill him.

Elkhayyat is charged with aggravated assault, harassment, and coercion of a witness. He is set to appear in court Friday morning.

“This whole thing is complete nonsense,” Elkhayyat said.
