JMX Brands, the largest online retailer of Amish furniture at https://www.dutchcrafters.com, recently presented Category Manager Sarah Carter with the Service Award during its annual awards ceremony.

The award recognizes one employee’s spirit of service and generosity, which builds community inside and outside of the organization.

During the ceremony, Director of Marketing and Giving Committee Chairperson Debra Gingerich highlighted Carter’s “tireless community building” in the Sarasota office. After recently relocating to the LaGrange, Indiana, office, her commitment to building community at JMX Brands continued when Carter volunteered to provide the meal for the awards ceremony.

Carter joined JMX Brands in August 2021 as a product category marketing assistant and was quickly promoted two months later to category manager.

She will receive a day off work to volunteer and a donation will be given in her name to an organization of her choosing. Carter has selected Goshen Interfaith Hospitality Network.

Following an extensive, nationwide search, the Pines of Sarasota Foundation Board of Trustees has named Ruth Frazier as the organization’s new president. Frazier will succeed Janet K. Ginn, who is retiring.

Frazier’s tenure as president will begin June 7.

She has over 20 years of experience with nonprofits, working in California for two large hospices and an educational organization before becoming chief development officer for a national organization based in Louisiana.

She moved to Sarasota in 2019 to join Senior Friendship Centers as its first chief development officer.

Frazier earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Central Arkansas. She is a certified fundraising executive and has received certificates in nonprofit management from Louisiana State University and fundraising management from the esteemed Lilly School of Philanthropy at Indiana University.

Scarlett Hotel Group announced April 25 that Danika Smith-Josiah, of Sarasota, has been promoted to regional vice president of operations.

Since starting at SHG four years ago, Smith-Josiah’s leadership skills have demonstrated the skill set required to move into an executive position. This role will provide support, training and guidance to hotel general managers nationwide in SHG’s rapidly growing hospitality portfolio.

Smith-Josiah has a successful background in hospitality leadership. After working at InterContinental Hotels Group as a corporate trainer and general manager for nearly 10 years, she made the move to SHG in 2018.

She began as a general manager of one of SHG’s properties in Sarasota and soon was promoted to director of learning and development, where she spearheaded a variety of development programs for SHG leaders to ultimately help the company increase profit and revenue, market share, client retention rates and employee satisfaction ratings.

Smith-Josiah received a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Technology, Jamaica, a bachelor’s in hospitality administration from Florida International University and a Master of Business Administration from Florida Atlantic University.

As Sarasota experiences a boom in housing, tourism and population growth, Shumaker is expanding its team to meet the growing need for legal services.

Ashley Hodson is joining the firm as partner in the Wealth Strategies Service Line and Alicia Lewis is joining as a senior attorney in the Real Estate and Development Service Line.

Hodson has years of experience in complex estate planning, trust and estate administration, and federal income, estate, gift and generation-skipping transfer tax planning.

In addition to the growth in wealth planning, Shumaker’s Sarasota office is expanding to meet the increased demand in real estate and development projects. Senior Attorney Alicia Lewis will focus on this area.

Lewis has spent her career practicing land use, zoning, government procurement, public/private partnerships, affordable housing, environmental law, entitlement due diligence, community outreach, and municipal government law.
