BUSINESS PEOPLE: Sarasota banker chosen for Adult Leadership Class of 2023

Gulfside Bank, Sarasota’s only locally owned community bank, announced recently that banker David Newton has been selected for the Adult Leadership Class of 2023.

Adult Leadership Sarasota is a 10-month program tailored for up-and-coming leaders who want to use their knowledge, skills and relationships to advance and deepen their community impact. Participants gain unique exposure to Sarasota County’s issues and key players while broadening their network with diverse leaders from the business, civic and nonprofit sectors.

Newton has more than 30 years of banking experience. He started his career in Connecticut and moved to Florida in 1999.

Newton has specialized in developing the government-guaranteed lending departments for several banks over the last 12 years, most recently at Central Bank, in Tampa.

Newton graduated from the University of Connecticut with a bachelor’s in economics in 1990.

Monica Yadav, director of communications and community engagement at HCA Florida Sarasota Doctors Hospital, has earned the Certified Public Relations Counselor designation from the Florida Public Relations Association.

She joins public relations professionals statewide who have proven their ability to counsel during a variety of public relations scenarios, including crisis communications.

The CPRC examination is open to any FPRA member who has earned accreditation in public relations and has a minimum of 10 years of experience practicing public relations.

Before working in health care, Yadav was the manager of external relations for a large home services company and was responsible for media relations, media training and crisis communications for franchise owners across the country.

She graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in telecommunication news.

The Community Foundation of Sarasota County has appointed Tracey McIntosh, a financial investment strategist, as vice president of finance.

Jamie Kattrein, an expert on policy and education, has been selected as director of community impact.

McIntosh has more than 20 years of expertise in accounting, leadership development, investment and strategic planning for an array of organizations, from Fortune 100 to start-up companies. Most recently, she was chief financial officer for a family office in Sarasota, managing assets for high-net-worth individuals.

McIntosh took a sabbatical in 2015, traveling to 50 countries.

Kattrein, an AmeriCorps alumna, most recently was vice president of programs for Girls Inc. of Sarasota County, where she cultivated partnerships with schools and organizations to develop programming that supports education, mental health and post-secondary success.

She earned a master’s degree in public policy and is driven to help empower the most vulnerable individuals, focusing on the intersection of poverty, education and family.
