Business recovery center to open Monday for Ian, Nicole damage

Business owners, residents and others who need help recovering from tropical storms Ian and Nicole will have a new resource starting Monday.

The U.S. Small Business Administration will open a business recovery center at the Daytona Beach Regional Library at 105 Jackie Robinson Parkway in Daytona Beach, according to a Volusia County government news release.

"Homeowners, renters, business owners, homeowners associations and most private nonprofit organizations impacted by (Ian and Nicole) may apply for a low-interest, long-term disaster assistance loan to assist with their recovery," according to the release.

The Small Business Administration offers an economic injury loan, which is only available to businesses and most private nonprofit organizations, and a physical property damage loan.

Applicants must first register with the Federal Emergency Management Agency before they can apply for a Small Business Administration Loan, according to the county. The process can be speeded up by registering with FEMA before going to the business recovery center. To register with FEMA, go to disasterassistance.gov, use the FEMA mobile app or call 800-621-3362.

Those affected can also submit documents needed for a current application, start an appeal for an application that's been denied, or talk with a representative about their application status, according to the release.

Separate applications for Ian and Nicole recovery will be required. Several loan application deadlines are ahead:

  • Jan. 12: Tropical Storm Ian, Physical Property

  • Feb. 13: Tropical Storm Nicole, Physical Property

  • June 29: Tropical Storm Ian, Economic Injury

  • Sept. 13: Tropical Storm Nicole, Economic Injury
