Business tidbits: Bellingham brewery closes, new snack shop and bakery open, local events

Here’s a roundup of the latest retail, business and restaurant activity in and around Whatcom County:

Darach Brewing announces closure

Darach Brewing Company, a Bellingham brewery that opened in December 2022, announced that it is going out of business and will be closing its doors on Saturday, Sept. 23.

Darach Brewing Company is open from 4-9 p.m. Monday, Thursday and Friday, 3-9 p.m. Saturday and 3-8 p.m. Sunday and is at 1015 N. State St. in Bellingham.

New snack shop opening

The Meryenda Shop, a snack shop that recently sold its wares out of a walk-up location is now opening a full shop in downtown Bellingham.

The shop will open Thursday, Sept. 14 and feature a variety of snacks such as fruits, jerky, cookies, bars, chips, cheese and crackers and drinks.

The shop will be open 2-5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday at 1226 Cornwall Ave.

Bakery opens brick and mortar location

Antler Baking Company, a bakery that typically can be found at the Bellingham Farmers Market, is opening its own retail location on Saturday, Sept. 16.

The shop will be open from noon to 6 p.m. for the grand opening, and then will be open by appointment only.

The shop is at 1301 Fraser St., Building A, in Bellingham.

Westside Pizza opening new Bellingham store

Westside Pizza, a national pizza chain is opening a new Bellingham location, according to the company’s website. The website does not list an address, operating hours or opening day.

Westside Pizza has another Bellingham location at 4260 Cordata Parkway #107.

Food truck closes for the season

Alaska Wild Fish & Chip Co., a seafood food truck in Blaine, is closing for the season and will have its last operating day on Sunday, Sept. 24.

The truck is open from 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. daily at 277 Marine Drive in Blaine.

Latitude Kitchen and Bar apparently closed

Latitude Kitchen and Bar, a restaurant in Sunset Square, has apparently closed. The restaurant’s Facebook page and website have been taken down. The restaurant’s status is also listed as “Permanently closed” on Google.

As of Sept. 7, the restaurant’s outdoor signage was removed and the building was wrapped in protection film.

The restaurant was located at 1065 E Sunset Drive in Bellingham.

Chicago Joe’s and Underground Burger grand opening

Chicago Joe’s, a Chicago style restaurant, celebrated the grand opening of Underground Burger at its location on Friday, Sept. 8.

Chicago Joe’s originally opened on June 16. The restaurants are open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday at 8082 Guide Meridian, Suite 103, in Lynden.
